"You have to dream before your dreams can come true."- Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam
I just booked a stay at a hotel!
But not just any hotel. The Hotel Pennsylvania. Hotel Penn.
And not just any stay! I'm staying February 9-13, 2014.
Midtown Manhattan? Mid-February? Do you need any more clues? If you do, you're probably not a dog show person.
WE'RE GOING TO WESTMINSTER!
Oh, you're not a dog person? There's absolutely nothing wrong with that. I'm not a cat person. The truth is, you don't have to be a dog snob in order to appreciate the thousands of gorgeous purebred dogs under one roof. Dogs of almost 200 breeds, all well-groomed, well-travelled, well-refined, well-mannered and well-loved. Its no wonder 3.8 million people tuned in to watch the 2013 show.
Ever since my first dog, Dodger who was a scoundrel of an American Cocker Spaniel joined my family when I was 9 years old, I became dog obsessed. While my older sister had TEEN BOP magazine and Mark Wahlberg covering her walls, I had the Dog Fancy centerfolds. Seriously, what 9 year old has Champion dogs on their walls? I've dreamed of showing on the green carpet of the Westminster Kennel Club since then.
And in 2014, with a silly little 2 year old Curly-Coated Retriever named Nola, AKA the NoodleDog - AKA CH Riverwatch Crescent City Postmark BN RN CGC, that dream will come true.
No really. That's the dog I'm going to Westminster with.
Westminster is not her dream. Her dream is to accompany me wherever I go, and do whatever I ask and in return get just a single Charlee Bear dog treat. Her life is much simpler than mine. So, since I'm going to the Westminster Kennel Club show, and there will be treats, she is very happy to come along with me. And she doesn't have to worry about parking either. That's my job too.
So yay! Westminster or bust!
